Intro to Editorial Portraiture is an 8 week photography workshop designed to instruct attendees on how to shoot portraiture in the less formal style of editorial portraits. Focused on developing each student’s personal style, the workshop will discuss posing, planning, knowing your subject, working within a story, dealing with the unexpected. The strongest emphasis will be on your vision. This workshop should give you a strong understanding of what an Editorial portrait is.
Jaymes Leavitt will instruct the students how to prepare for and produce a successful Editorial shoot. From landing the assignment to execution, Jaymes will reveal the necessary skills and technique needed for these types of photo shoots. Jaymes Leavitt is a photographer in Boston MA, specializing in location and people photography. Jaymes combines an approach of balance and design to his photography.
This “Intermediate” level workshop will focus on photographic design and construction, seeing and vision and applying that to an assignment. The aim is to develop the skills necessary to work with Editors, Photo editors and to discuss issues, ideas, and critical thought as it applies to one's own work and to the wider world of photography.

Intro to Editorial Portraiture will focus on photographic design and construction, seeing and vision and applying that to an assignment. The aim is to develop the skills necessary to work with Editors, Photo editors and to discuss issues, ideas, and critical thought as it applies to one's own work and to the wider world of photography.
In addition to digital capture and production, students will produce images from initial capture to post production. We will have periodic critique sessions, slide lectures, and sample assignments.
Below is a brief* list of the subjects covered during this workshop.
- The Production of an Editorial style Portrait. Developing a Style.
- Location Lighting secrets. How to get the best out of any situations.
- How to Handle difficult subjects! Yes they do exist and you have to be prepared.
- Pre-production and preparation. Planning for success!
- The proper correspondence.
- A brief History. Intro to various leaders in the field of editorial.
- Lighting with Portable Flash.
- Trends in Editorial Portraiture. How to stand out!
- The portfolio and your vision. Presenting your work in a professional manner.
A wide range of assignments will be given and should offer opportunities to use the skills you will learn throughout the workshop.The list included is very brief as this workshop provides students with an incredible amount of useful information.
Requirements: Must be confortable with camera and Digital editing software, be able to send/post pictures online.
Level: Intermediate level.
Software: Must have access to one of the following: Photoshop (CS,CS2, CS3, CS4), Lightroom, Aperture, Photoshop Elements, Picassa (Free photo editing software)
Camera: Any DSLR capable of shooting various format including RAW. Minimum one lens (preferrably zoom wide to medium:24-70mm.)

The "Workshop Project Book" is one of the workshop's main feature. Every participant in this workshop will receive an 8"x10" coffee table book! That's right! This book will be produced from the various assignments during the course. A selection of images from each participants in the Personal Photography Project workshop will be included. If a participant decide to not include his/her photographs in the "Workshop Project Book", he/she will still receive the book.
This is a wonderful way for the participants to view the work they produced during the workshop. Book should be sent within four weeks after the end of the workshop.
Attendees will have access to assignments notes that can be reviewed by instructor and that can help photographers write ideas and concepts.
Note: PhotoInstitute.net will independently select an Image for the cover and will place photography projects in the order our designer feels is the most pleasing.
